The wildly-hyped but grossly under-subscribed Exe cruise eventually got severely pruned and only got as far as Beer, and several days late to boot.
On arrival the swell, so deceptively gentle offshore, made getting ashore in tiny inflatables the inevitable surfing experience. Not least for dear Hugh Duncan who got very wet going into the beach (thanks again Hugh for shielding me from that enormous breaking wave) and when he had more or less dried out, then proceeded to get very very wet when trying to re-board Avocet. Definitely the day’s highlight.
The breeze was mostly kind, the weather dry and mild, none of the four little ships and nine intrepid crews was lost and all consumed pleasant fare al fresco at the Anchor Inn.
To our absent fellow cruising folk, you missed a good day out – “must try harder” next year!
