A turn out of 9 dinghies from Lyme made it to Sutton Bingham SC on Sunday to compete for the Banbury Chaser Cup and Youth Trophy. This long established inter-club competition incorporated the Dorset Triangle, with Castle Cove joining in.

The 7 Lyme youth sailors ( out of a team or 13) met unfamiliar conditions, a windward-leeward course in strong, gusty conditions on the lake. For some, this was their first series away from home waters, with a different rig or a new boat. Credit to Jerry for getting them organised, Dave and Tim Leyshon for transporting, and to the parents who supported and witnessed the progress made by the ILCAs.
The breeze blew down the length of the lake, gusty and shifty. One race before lunch, two back-to-back after. (Jerry missed the promised bacon rolls!). Race 2 was sailed in slightly lighter winds which returned strongly for Race 3. Launching was difficult from a crowded slipway off a lee shore.

It took a while for some of the less experienced to master the conditions, but Tom, just 14 and madly keen, more than held his own to achieve great results. By Race 3, the Lyme lads, Ferdy, Josh and Elliot, had it sussed, or in the words of their coach, ‘they bossed it!’.
Overall, Andrew Frost, SBSC, held first place, Graham second, Tom third, Tim and Isla fourth, Allan and Chrissey sixth. Which added up to a win for Lyme: Banbury Chaser, Youth Cup, Dorset Triangle.
