> Photo: Dave Beer > > A cold, gusty North-easterly almost flattened the waves, creating white horses across the bay, as 3 of our keenest winter sailors set off on the beat at the start of today’s race. > Will and Graham Cook enjoyed a tussle in their Lasers while Tim O’Toole and Simon Law held them off to take line honours. > Race Officer Stefan Laeger, helmed by Mike Pridham, followed closely and gave them 4 laps of the course. > In a half-hour race, only half a minute separated Will and Graham, with corrected time putting the Albacore a minute behind them. > ‘ A real Brass Monkeys race,’ commented Graham. > ‘There were big enough waves to surf on, but the best bit was surfing in through the harbour mouth!’ added Will. > Tim was buzzing: ‘It wasn’t cold working the boat so hard,’ was his contribution before diving into the showers. > Stefan and Mike had volunteered for the coldest jobs – their turn to race the week after next. > The club dinghies contest the Clive Banbury Trophy at Sutton Bingham next weekend, with the second leg to follow in the Autumn at Lyme. > The 2022 racing season starts in April. > For results and calendar, see website. > As printed in Bridport News 10.03.22 >
