Banbury Chaser 2025 – Lyme Regis Sailing Club Win

Banbury Chaser 2025 – Lyme Regis Sailing Club Win
Lyme Regis Sailing Club came out on top in the 2025 Banbury Chaser, finishing with a total of 29.5 points compared to Sutton Bingham Sailing Club 38.5. With the lowest score winning under this format, Lyme’s consistent performance across the fleet secured the result.
Sutton Bingham sent a small but experienced team, including former Commodore Richard “Scooby” Frost in a K1, joined by his son Andrew Frost and Chris Jones in RS Aeros with different rigs. Despite their quality, they couldn’t match the strength in numbers and solid sailing from the home club.
Lyme’s scoring sailors were Tim and Sarah, Graham, Ian W, Mike, and Pip and Noah. It was great to see so many club boats out on the water, with a broad mix of experience and classes contributing to the overall success.
A highlight of the day was the performance of Pip and Noah, who took home the Banbury Chaser Youth Prize. Both showed impressive speed and determination – particularly when they stayed upright – and were a credit to the club.
Elliot and Cassian were the second youth boat, sailing well in their Feva, followed closely by Harry in his ILCA 4. The strong youth turnout was a real positive and shows the depth coming through the junior ranks.
Thanks go to Andy, Rob, and Margaret for running the racing on PJ, Jeremy, and Dave for beach support. The race team included five current or former Commodores, showing the depth of experience supporting club racing.
All in all, it was a successful day for the club with strong racing, great turnout, and excellent teamwork both on and off the water.
Thanks to Sutton Bingham for attending we are looking forward to return leg in 2026.
