Making the most of the conditions, a loppy sea and not much wind, the Pico group had a briefing with Jim before setting off last Tuesday. Two youth assistants took their beginners in the Bahias, while Josh and Louis did spinnaker practice in the popular Fusion, and Inters sailed a Fusion with jib. At times, the sea knocked the smaller dinghies off course, but overall, good progress with the 5 Essentials and sailing a triangular course. Then tonight, heavy rain as we got ready for the session. Jim hoped the showers would pass through and everyone got wet before even getting in a dinghy! But it was a good call – the rain eased, the wind held and then came up, the sea was flattened, almost ideal conditions if a bit cold! Everyone sailed the triangle, the spinnaker pair took off, Daniel helmed the Fusion with little prompting from Ed, Noah was on hand to help a Pico, Dave gave two youth assistants some Rib practice, all came back pleased with the session. Niamh got praise as the Pico group debriefed…..we could go on….. Our shore team had a new parent, willing to wade in with Ray and Tim, Jo sorted the new Picos and their trolleys, Tim towed the Ribs…..what a great team, all going so well this season! We’re thinking of our youth Regatta, 3 June, encouraging our youth members to join in, working out which dinghies will be best for them. And Sally has two or three volunteers for Blessing the Boats on Sunday, plus Elliot will do the sailing out behind the Lifeboat again. Until next week, Sally and Jim
