Racing starts on Sunday 18 April

> > Keen to return to racing, 20 boats made for the start line on Sunday 18 April. > A flat, sparkling sea and light breeze gave Race Officer Allan Tyler scope to set a fair course, adjusting marks as the wind shifted. Maggie Dunn and Stefan Lauder manned the patrol boat. > Close competition saw a black flag start for the second race following a general recall, after which all started on time. Seconds separated the leaders in the three 40 minute races, with Jerry Rook and Simon Stow in an Albacore finishing with three firsts. > Chasing them in a borrowed OK was Andy Robinson (3,2,7) and Graham Cook in his Laser (5,3,4). Papa Joe, sailed by Tim O’Toole and Simon Law challenged for second in race one but were beaten into 7th place by Guy Woodhouse (K1), Simon Boyle (RS 100) and Jack Young (Phantom) in race two. > Making an impressive start in his first club races, young Tom Rawlings in his ILCA, followed Mike Pridham (Laser Radial, 8,11) with a creditable 9th and 15th. Tom has trained with Jerry Rook in the club youth Race group and is keen to take part in club events. >
