Father and son team Graham and Will Cook in their Fireball, won both of the final races of the Winter series to hold onto first place overall. The Winter Series is for the hardy dinghy racers who ‘can’t get enough of dinghy racing’ – quote Jerry Rook, Sunday’s Race Officer.
In shifty northerly winds, tricky sailing conditions, Jerry praised the three youth competitors who all completed both courses. Ed Stubbs (4,2) sailed his ILCA 4.7 ‘brilliantly’ – quote Jerry – with a good start in race 26 and a first at the windward mark, beating all except the Fireball on handicap. Both Josh Dean, ILCA 4.7, (5,7) and Freddie Cooper, ILCA Radial, (7,6) also put in steady performances, having sailed their first season in their dinghies. Both have been regulars at the Saturday race coaching sessions run by Jerry and Graham, and during the Winter series, with Ed joining in when he’s not been on the Feva circuit.
Well placed in both final races were Andy Robinson, Phantom (3,3) and Tim O’Toole and Guy Woodhouse, Albacore (2,5). Full series results, see Club website.
