Ed adjusts rudder and sets off in a Pico to join the group
Race Group on an empty sea today.
Jerry’s Youth Race Group sailed this morning in bright, cold conditions, a light off-shore wind and flat sea. 9 of the 12-strong Group turned out and spent almost 2 hours training with RYA coach Cameron Moss, one of the club’s top helms. Jerry himself is confined to his T4, but organiser Jo was able get a qualified replacement! The keen group last sailed on Tuesday and the aim is to keep going whenever conditions, and restrictions, permit. Club Bosun, Dave Law, helmed the patrol boat and a watch was kept by the shore team. Izzy Glazebrook, one of the national Topper squad sailors, was free to join in today. Izzy is a dedicated competitor who spends every possible hour training, mainly at Portland where mum Sarah has access to facilities. The youngest sailor out was Ed Stubbs. Ed sails with the Optimist squad, and like Izzy, will be at Portland tomorrow. Parents of both squads have arranged a meeting in case T4 overtakes the training next weekend. Jerry’s aim is to get the Race group able to take part in club racing, something they achieved a couple of weeks ago when they completed one of the winter series run by Jack. If there are any qualified coaches in the club who can assist Jerry with youth race training, please get in touch.
