OK World Championship – A Great Performance by All

The 2023 OK world championships are very successfully done and dusted apart from the small matter of dismantling and removing the marquee, getting the RIB’s back into the garage and generally restoring the clubhouse and facilities to normality.
We had in excess of 70 volunteers operating for seven consecutive days and some for longer. What an outstanding performance it was by all involved:-
The pre-event planning, co-ordination and management was a monumental task; exceptionally well executed by the event management committee chaired by David Beer.
The on water management encompassing, setting the courses, officiating all aspects of race management and safety matters was executed superbly. Many of the competitors told my they were very impressed by the race management in what was sometimes very difficult and frustrating conditions.
Given the very large number of boats, trailers and trolleys involved. the logistics confronting the beach and slipway team had to contend with was mind boggling. But what a smooth and slick operation the team put on from start to finish. quite a number of the competitors made a point of mentioning this to me.
The bar, catering and social aspects ran like clockwork through out and was greatly appreciated by members and competitors alike. When saying goodbye to participants on Friday night and Saturday morning I was repeatedly told we had such a lovely friendly club with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
This is of course all down to the efforts and hard-work of the event organising committee and everyone else who volunteered and contributed. All of you pulled off a very difficult and challenging event with panache and style and served Lyme Regis Sailing Club with distinction. A big thank you to you all.
