Arranged by Dave Stubbs, Jake spent the day at Lyme with 8 of our youth ILCA sailors. Light breeze, flat sea, not the most exciting conditions but Jake was well impressed with how keen and responsive the group were, concentrating on and off the water and able to appreciate the level of coaching he offered. Individual coaching within the framework of skills in light winds – starts, boat speed, roll tacks, body positioning and movement – formed part of the programme. Two theory sessions preceded water activity, a debrief pulled the day’s coaching together. Jake shared many of this tips which have taken him to the top of the current ILCA 7 fleet, a basis for continuing practice. He encouraged the group to join in club racing when possible, and continue with their coaching opportunities. Helping on the water was SI Jim Thomas, while Ray Cackett, Paul Rawlings, Jo Law and Dave Law assisted on shore. Our ILCA sailors thanked Jake and the club team, and Dave Stubbs for setting up the training. Jake would always be welcome for a return visit next season! All credit to Jerry, Graham, Dan, Chris and others who have put in the hours with these keen youth sailors to mentor this group on the water.

Paul has made a contact group for those participating today: Issy, Ferdy, Ben, Elliot, Josh, Tom, Harvey, Simon. Jake’s videos will be available to them so that they can pick up on individual coaching points.
