49erFX Crew on their way to the Olympics



> > > Saskia, Stevie, Charlotte and Joe at Lyme Regis Sailing Club > Masks off for photo! > > Meeting at Lyme’s Sailing Club for their final briefing with their coaches before setting off for Tokyo, were Charlotte Dobson (centre) and Saskia Tidey (left), the GB team sailing the 49erFX. > They have sailed together since 2017, both having competed at the Beijing Olympics with other crews, and were selected after winning Silver at the the World Championships in 2017 and Europeans in 2018, then Silver in the 2020 Worlds. They are strong contenders for medals. > > Their coach, Stevie Morrison from Exmouth, met the girls who are based at the Weymouth Academy for a 3 hour private briefing. > Stevie won Gold at the 2007 49er Worlds, and Silver the following year with Ben Rhodes, and was a Fireball World champion. He is now the 49erFX coach. > With them was Joe Glanfield, who coaches the 49er team of 6 alongside Ben. Joe won Silver at both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics in the 470 class. > > Charlotte and Saskia leave on July 4th, their first race is on July 14th. > ‘We wish them every success, Lyme sailors will be cheering them on,’ said Hon Sec Sally, ‘we look forward to seeing them again after the Olympics, and Stevie will do some coaching for our keen youth sailors.’ > Joe presented the club with a British Sailing Team polo shirt which will be auctioned for youth funds. Chris Turner had suggested to Stevie that the club might be a good meeting place.
